The use of “hey” in place of “hello”.
I cannot find any other origin for the word 'Hey' Where I live in Liverpool we have a famous Children's Hospital called 'Alder Hey' and I was talking to someone about that word. It was suggested that it may have originally been Hay but I seem to remember as a child thinking the word 'Hey' had some meaning associated with the countryside.
