Idiom or not, commonly used or not, "try and" sounds stupid and is stupid English. May as well make ain't correct.

I can't help but notice some of the comments, such as "try and" being an idiom and OK in colloquial speech. I think they are missing the point of "rules" in language. The rules keep our language clean and clearly understandable. Without the rules, we loose definition and language becomes muddy. Language can change, but it needs borders. Language like this needs to be corrected, idiom or not. It does, in fact, lower the general level of education in the entire population. Does anyone disagree, that good language presents itself as good education? and makes a person respectable? The reverse is true also.
