True. That is subjunctive. I not a native English speaker. I learn English such that I know grammar.. Subjective is one of the most difficult parts of English to many non-native students....

“independence from” or “independence to”?
"independence of": John declares the independence of John Republic.
"independence from": The union, though weak and poor, managed to remain their independence from other big, influential interest groups.
Can you sense the difference there?
